Bike Date

Last night when i arrived at CityBikes Martin was fixing up Dave's X-tracycle (complete with homemade duct tape seat cushion) to take his date on a ride around the city. The weather was lovely for January and it reminded me of a conversation i had with Henry Cutler of Henry Workcycles in Amsterdam (the shop is in Amsterdam, we had this conversation just before christmas in Adams Morgan).

Henry and I were chatting about disgustingly cute bike related courting rituals. Most notably Billy and Jen's entire courtship, engagement, and wedding....
Henry pointed out to me that the most romantic thing in the world was riding through Amsterdam late at night, drunk, with your girlfriend riding on the back of your bike. When everything comes together just right, she hops off the bike just before you reach a hill (ok- in Amsterdam that would be a bridge over a canal) and she helps push the bike up the hill- then right at the crest of the hill she jumps back on in perfect time with your pedaling. Sounds pretty darn romantic to me.
